When Felicity and Aaron asked us to plan and style their wedding, they knew what they liked but didn’t have a cohesive idea of how it could all be brought together. After a few convo’s and time spent getting to know them we came with up two design concepts for them to choose from, each of which would have looked incredible at Carclew, their chosen venue. In the end, Felicity just couldn’t choose which she loved best so we combined her favourite elements and colours from both and came up with this Vintage Spring Garden wedding day for them.
Felicity and Aaron met when she walked into his cafe one morning and he instantly felt that she was someone special. He eventually found the courage to ask her out on a date and that was when she realised he was pretty special too. As Felicity said in her wedding speech ‘I came with some baggage that would scare a lot of guys, but Aaron just said that he wasn’t going anywhere, and he’s never left my side since.’
The Venue
This couple had originally wanted to be married in their own garden at home, however the logistics of planning such a big day in their space proved a little difficult, so they decided on the beautiful garden at Carclew in North Adelaide.
Wedding Style
For this Vintage Spring Garden soiree we made sure to include vintage glassware at the bar, french provincial lounges under the trees, and plenty of festoon and fairy lights to bring that bit of sparkly magic to the evening.
The Dress
Felicity had her gown custom-made at Caleche, and had dresses made for her bridesmaid daughters Grace and Harper by Caleche also. I love that Grace added her own style to the outfit with black glitter combat boots!
Save vs Splurge
Save - Felicity and Aaron chose to save on their flowers. They had a very talented florist, Liesa from Fleur de Lys Flowers, provide their bouquets and buttonholes, as well as their ceremony ‘arbour’, but then chose to let Carclew’s garden shine for their reception.
Splurge - the splurge here was the Baker Boys Band who provided an acoustic guitarist and singer for the ceremony, and a five-piece band for the reception. Live music really adds an extra special vibe!
First Look
Felicity and Aaron chose to have a First Look before their ceremony and I’m always so glad when couples do this as it saves time on having photos taken later, and allowed them to get back to their party and mingle with their guests a lot sooner. It was all set-up by their photographer, Sarah from Little Car Photography, and they got some wonderful shots as well as a precious few minutes alone together, not something that’s easy to achieve at a wedding!
There was not a dry eye in the house when the speeches began - this was truly a day to celebrate the coming together of a beautiful family. Aaron is incredibly supportive of Felicity’s girls and looks after them as his own. This was evident in the speeches Grace and Harper gave, as well as the way the four of them kept joining together all day for dancing and their own special moments. They just love spending time together.
My personal favourite moment was when all four of them took part in the First Dance and their chosen song was Jump Around by House of Pain! Guests also enjoyed hand-made ice cream from the Barossa Valley Ice Cream Cart that was provided for them post-ceremony.
Sneaky Pickle food truck provided an incredibly tasty dinner for everyone, with lots of choices and so much food that Felicity and Aaron had leftovers that would have lasted for days! Then the Baker Boys Band put on an awesome show and kept the crowd on the dance-floor for the rest of the night.
