James and Nicole initially met in 2010 at a mutual friend's birthday party. After the party finished James kindly asked the mutual friend for Nicole's phone number, to which he received a resounding no - she was too young for him.
Fast forward two years where the pair met again at the same mutual friend's 21st Birthday party. James once again asked the mutual friend for Nicole's phone number - not realising it was the same girl from two years ago. This time the mutual friend obliged and the rest is history.
James first slid into Nicole's DMs with, what else, but a mention of how he saw her dad at the local golf club. This was followed by a terrible movie date - the movie was terrible, not the date - and an awkward double date where James asked Nicole for a kiss in front of his brother and brother's girlfriend.
Many dates, a house, an interstate move, lots of travel, and a lot of mini golf later, James asked Nicole to marry him on Christmas Eve, with a scavenger hunt full of riddles and puzzles. Nicole said ‘YES!’ and here we are.
These two are so perfect together. They take care of each other beautifully, and on their wedding day they both grinned like cheshire cats the whole time!
They do things their own way, and they cut their wedding cake with a ceremonial sword that belonged to James’ great great grandfather, Brigadier General George Henry Dean, who led the thirteenth light horse regiment to Gallipoli in 1915. This sword has been used to cut wedding cakes in the Dean family for the last fifty years, and Nicole and James certainly had a lot of fun with it when their turn came.
A donation to the Cancer Council provided lapel pins at each place setting, and a huge cheer from the crowd when their gift was announced.
Then a game of heads or tails tested the guests knowledge of the bride and groom, and tied in with their love of games and challenges!
From the Bride:
What are your fondest memories of the wedding day? We absolutely loved just spending time together taking sunset photos. Our photographer was amazing! And it was so good just to step away from everything and get to talk to each other one on one.
What was the best decision you made when planning the wedding? Any advice for future brides and grooms? Hire a wedding planner! It relieves so much stress and provides you with such confidence that you are on track and haven’t forgotten anything. Emma was approachable and friendly, but also firm and efficient. You want to get on well with your wedding planner, but you also need someone who will tell you when you need to get your butt into order, which is what Emma provides.
Also, get a videographer. We were on the fence about this, but the day goes so fast that it is amazing to be able to look back on the day through the video.
Have a spreadsheet or some way to track all your invoices, and try and spread out your payments if possible, otherwise everything is due at the same time and the credit card looks very sad very quickly.
We LOVED working with Nicole and James to bring their wedding vision to life, and know they’re all set for a lifetime full of love and adventures! xo
