Alex + Takuto are high school sweethearts and together they’re just an incredible team who have so much warmth and a great vibe to share with all they meet. They booked Sparrow to take care of their wedding day very early (like two and a half years ago) so we could help them secure the big players for their day, then take a planning break while Alex concentrated on nailing her medical school exams. Takuto is a teacher at the Hospital School in Adelaide which also keeps him very busy.

One of the big aims for their day was to honour their individual heritage, and so there was a church ceremony at the Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church, followed by a civil ceremony with their personal vows and Japanese tea ceremony in the Penfolds tunnels. One of my favourite little nods was the dozens of origami cranes Takuto had made, which were dotted about the reception.

Why did you choose Sparrow instead of another wedding planner?
We knew we wanted a day-of coordinator at a minimum however we were also overwhelmed with the task of planning our wedding by ourselves. The Management service was perfect for us as it allowed us to be active in the planning of our wedding while having Emma there as a sounding board and who could steer us in the right direction. Also after our first meeting with Emma, we knew we wouldn’t be able to plan our wedding without her!

What are your fondest memories of your wedding day?
There are so many! Saying our vows in front of our friends and family was such a special moment that we will never forget. One of our fondest memories was once all the formalities of the ceremonies were over and we were sitting down at our reception and looking around at all of our loved ones chatting, eating, and enjoying themselves. The space looked perfect and it was so beautiful to see the vision come together.

What was the best decision you made when planning the wedding?
Any advice for future couples? Hiring Emma! Genuinely I’m not just saying that. Having someone who was in our corner no matter what was invaluable. There are so many unexpected things that come up while wedding planning and it was so incredible to have someone to go to when everything felt like it was going south. Emma handled every little issue with a reassuring smile.
