Jeanette is from Southampton, England and moved here eight years ago for a geology position at Roxby Downs, where Jonathon was also stationed. Her gave her a tour of the mine, and she was quite impressed. But it wasn’t until a couple years later when Jeanette went out to see him play football, and the sight of Jono in his footy shorts helped her decide to accept the date he offered her!
The Venue
All of Jeanette’s family live in England so Jeanette and Jono really wanted to provide a venue where they could be accommodated, both as a gesture of thanks for travelling so far, and to help eliminate the need for too much travel once they arrived. Bungaree Station has accommodation for up to 35 guests spread over six different cottages and buildings. It’s history as a sheep station (today run as a mixed farm and function venue) also lent a very Australian flavour to the whole weekend.
Wedding Style
Jeanette and Jono played to the venue’s strengths and went with a rustic theme, choosing natural timber and soft grey linens for their decor, as well as lots of greenery and Australian native flowers in white and burgundy. The bridesmaid’s bouquets were stunning with red king proteas featured, while the bride’s bouquet had a single ‘blushing bride’ protea as the feature bloom.
Family is really important to both Jeanette and Jono and they worked hard to make their loved ones feel special. Photographs of absent loved ones were displayed at both the ceremony and reception, a family member’s vintage Jaguar transported the bride and groom, and Amelia Veale (from the groom’s family) did a stellar job as MC for the reception. A friend of the couple’s provided cheese wheels for the cake from her workplace, Yallingup Cheese, and Jeanette’s father had also collected a series of video messages from family and friends back home and had them shown on a projection screen after his speech. Not a dry eye in the house!
I actually spoke with Jeanette’s father for a few minutes before the ceremony, we were stood to the side while Jeanette had some photos taken. I could see in his eyes he was just so proud of her. I mentioned as much to him as we stood there and he agreed that he was proud of Jeanette, as he was of his whole family. It was evident that they’re a tight-knit group and it isn’t surprising that Jeanette and Jono are both such lovely people.
Jeanette and Jono treated their guests to a meal prepared by Indulgence Food Design, with service provided by Are You Being Served, both two of the best in the business at making your guests feel like royalty.
Some of my favourite elements of the day included seeing Jono perform a champagne saber to kick off pre-dinner drinks (it did take a couple tries, but that’ll be a funny story someday soon. See pics in the gallery below), and a dessert table that featured an enormous slab of milk chocolate from Adelaide favourite Haigh’s. Guests were able to hack into it with a wooden mallet and chisel, and eat the subsequent chunks as they broke off. Word to the wise future brides and grooms - it’s these simple pleasures that your guests will love most :)
The Dress
Jeanette's gown was by Caleche. She customised her own design made up of the shape and structure of the Opera gown, with lace added from another dress in the Wild at Heart collection. The bridesmaids wore navy blue dresses by Betrothed.
The dance floor got going later in the evening thanks to Ash Gale and his band. Jeanette changed from her wedding gown into a white party dress … and not ten minutes later someone spilled red wine right down the front of it from top to bottom. She wasn’t even mad, she just hot-footed it back to her cottage to change into a polka-dot dream of a jumpsuit and ran on back to the party before she missed any fun! I knew I liked this girl from the moment we met.
Congratulations Jeanette and Jono, I know you’re set for a lifetime of fun and adventures ahead! Emma xo
